The International Day of Friendship, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2011, is a celebration of the bonds between peoples, countries, cultures, and individuals. It aims to inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. Governments, organizations, and civil society groups worldwide are encouraged to hold events that foster dialogue among civilizations, solidarity, mutual understanding, and reconciliation.
Horizon Europe, the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation, shows European effort towards friendship and cooperation. It addresses global challenges like climate change and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals while boosting the EU’s competitiveness. By facilitating collaboration and enhancing the impact of research and innovation, Horizon Europe supports EU policies and tackles worldwide issues.
The FRIENDSHIP project, funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, represents this spirit of cooperation. Coordinated by the CEA, the French National Research Centre on Alternative Energies, FRIENDSHIP unites research centres, industrial designers, technologists, and heat suppliers from 8 European countries. These actors have been working together since 2020 to transform solar heat into reliable and quality heat and cold for industrial processes. The project is coming to an end and the prototype is almost ready.
In conclusion, as we celebrate International Friendship Day, let’s also recognize the collaborative spirit that drives projects like FRIENDSHIP. This initiative not only strengthens ties across Europe but also advances sustainable and innovative solutions for a better future.
